While I do have access to the Creative Cloud suite of apps, I prefer to do much of my image editing in Pixelmator for Mac. It’s extremely powerful (some would say perfectly on par with Adobe Photoshop) and at just $30 on the Mac App Store, Pixelmator is also a tremendous value.
Just this week the team behind the original app pulled back the curtain on a brand-new application – Pixelmator Pro. The forthcoming Pro version is slated to arrive sometime this fall, and with it comes an array of fancy new features, like: Layouting, Painting, Retouching, Reshaping, Photo Effects, and even Machine Learning.
Who knows how much the app will cost – I could see it being as much as $199 or $299, or maybe even moving to a subscription model – but what’s clear is that it’s taking dead aim at other pro creative apps from Adobe like Lightroom and Illustrator.
For a relatively smaller team, this strikes me as a Herculean effort. I’m excited to see Pixelmator Pro when it releases this fall.
